Our team is made up of dedicated individuals with deep passion for creating a better world. The team is made up of students from Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and Mechatronics background. The team is generally split into the administrative team and the built team. The administrative team consists of both the team manager and the communications manager with a handful of team members to help them. The built team, on the other hand, is led by the logistics manager, and is responsible for designing and building the boat. Of course, the team structure is flexible, meaning that members from each teams help each other freely. There are also junior members who joined in to learn and help out. Dr. Chua (not shown in picture), the Coordinator for Electrical and Electronic programme of the University acts as the main advisor, supported by Dr. Almon Chai (not shown in picture), the Coordinator for Robotics and Mechatronics programme. Our aim is to design, build, and race an energy efficient boat to participate in HYDROCONTEST 2016!
This year, SwinSurfers returns with even more surprises. From computer-aided design to the fabrication of the boat, our team has put in tremendous amount of effort. Our ultimate objective is to manifest the notion of an efficient yet powerful craft. Striking a balance between the two is an endeavour our team has committed to attempt. Armed with expertise in various fields, our team constantly strives to advance, knocking on the door of innovation from day to day. In line with Swinburne University’s "Think Forward" spirit, we break free of conventional beliefs and devise plans to pave our way towards success.
A Robotics and Mechatronics engineering and Computer Science student with a passion for almost anything. As the leader, Daniel guides and advices all members professionally, efficiently and effectively. Moreover, he has outstanding charisma that inspires SwinSurfers to be productive and unleash their hidden potentials. In addition, he designs the shape of the hull. Along with Hong Jian, Pheng Hak and Gabriel, he is one of the pioneers in SwinSurfers.
A friendly and upbeat explorer who takes up the challenge to join engineering students in their SwinSurfers voyage. Although she is an Accounting and Finance major student, she is doing an excellent job in promoting the team as the communications manager. She is responsible and flexible accompanied by fierce determination. Moreover, she is approachable and always willing to lend you a helping hand.
Another Robotics and Mechatronics engineering student, Gabriel is an enthusiastic and passionate in building and creating cool stuffs. As the logistics manager, he is in charge of communicating with the officials regarding the equipment such as motors and controllers. Gabriel was one of the junior members in SwinSurfers 2015. Guided by the senior members from previous year, he seeks to learn and contribute more in SwinSurfers 2016.
The Built team
The brains and muscles behind SwinSurfers.
Although he is new to the team, he adapts and blends in with all members in no time. Bernard is an Electrical and Electronics engineering student who is in charge of SwinSurfers' electronics. Even as the electronics guy, he offers help to the building and mechanical parts of the boat. A friendly, reliable and enthusiastic person that everyone enjoys to work with.
Thought to be a quiet guy at first. However, he is actually an ambitious and friendly guy from Robotics and Mechatronics. Joo Chee is in charge of the boat's control mechanism. Besides that, he is willing to help anyone in need. He likes to drink Soya Bean earning him the nickname "Dao Zui", which means Soya Bean.
Being in HydroContest 2015, Kelvin is one of the pioneers in SwinSurfers who previously took up the position of the logistic manager in SwinSurfers. As a reliable senior member, he is willing to guide and help the new members as well as in charge of this year's hydrofoil for lightweight boat. He is a Robotics and Mechatronics engineering student who is dependable, adaptive and flexible.
As a junior in the team and the youngest to participate in HydroContest, Peter is keen to learn from all his seniors. Moreover, he is talented and ready to take up challenges. He represented the Asia-Pacific region in the Present Around The World competition. Hence, Peter is literally the guy who defies the normal life of a first year Electrical and Electronics engineering student.
Pheng Hak is calm, cool and quiet. Educationally, he is a Mechanical engineering student who possesses an extraordinary ability in calculating as well as simulating the efficiency of the boat. Thus, he is also known as "The Simulator". Moreover, he is in charge of designing the heavyweight boat. Along with Daniel, Gabriel and Hong Jian, he is one of the pioneers in SwinSurfers.
Supervisor: Dr. Chua
Dr. Chua is our main advisor who advises and guides the team along the way. He is like the patron of the team, taking care of each one of us (and ensure that one of us follows the safety guidelines). His kind and caring actions motivates the team to strive even further.
